Meet Wayne Simmons
January 2014 marks the beginning of my 16th year as a licensed massage therapist.
My favorite moment was when I had a lady come to me for deep tissue work. She was a post op from a knee surgery and wanted the deep tissue work to help reduce scar tissue buildup. I informed her that the work she wants will hurt in the process. She informed me that she was well aware of that, but the long term benefits outweighed the temporary pain. During the first visit she was coming up off the table and was making painful noises. The second visit was the great moment. We began the work, she was flinching like the last visit, but I noticed that the painful noises were muffled. I turned to look at her, to make sure she was ok, that is when I noticed the braided rope dog chew toy that she had in her mouth to bite down on while we did the deep tissue work.
For me, the best part about being a message therapist is getting to see how I helped someone. When someone comes to me because they cannot raise their arm above their head, and then when I am done working on them, they CAN raise their arm above their head, and it was because of me, THAT is the best part.
Massage was something that I always did around the house, and seemed to be good at it. I mean, nobody complained about the free massages. So, I decided to go to massage school to see if I could make some money for what I was doing for free.
